Jeff Glover, my manager and the original XOOM.com designer, created this XOOM "nav bar." Whenever a member joined XOOM and created a free Web page on XOOM's server, this nav bar featuring other XOOM services would automatically be appended to the top of their Internet browser.
In reality, the whole bar is actually an image-mapped graphic designed to look like part of the user's browser, leaving XOOM with total control over its appearance each day. Jeff programmed the PHP and designed the original bar, and I took over its daily operation, changing graphics and "words" pixel by pixel to advertise different services each day.
Towards the end of XOOM's existence, we were working on a way to serve different XOOMbars to different individuals, using PHP to parse data from their user profiles and activity, but alas, NBC had different priorities.
